Fourth of July Fun in Northern Virginia

Of all the holidays in our country that speak to national freedom, July Fourth is the day we kick up the most dust! Why not? It’s the birthday of something great, and like all great birthdays, we party like it’s 1776! Below is a list of some of the best of the best birthday celebrations you can attend in Northern Virginia.

Baseball and Fireworks

If there is a perfect way to celebrate our nation’s birthday it’s got to be with baseball and fireworks. The Potomac Nationals light up the skies with their annual Fourth of July fireworks show after their baseball game at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the game starts at 6:45 p.m. Anyone attending the game can buy tickets to a Fourth of July picnic with all-you-can-eat hot dogs, hamburgers and sides, as well. Get more information on the Potomac Nationals’ website.

Old Town Manassas

Old Town Manassas kicks off an evening of fun at 3:15 p.m. on July Fourth with a kids’ bicycle rodeo, apple pie baking contests and watermelon eating. The entire area is covered with activities including a carnival and live music. The apex of the night is their amazing fireworks display that begins at 9:15 p.m.  This year, many establishments will be offering their rooftops for a bird’s eye view of the display.

Culpeper Car Show

If you are looking to get out of town for the day, the place to go is Culpeper. Their downtown sports car and bike shows brings in some of the finest in historic cars, trucks and motorcycles. The event starts at 10 a.m. and is free to the public. Check out their Facebook page for more information.

The Grande Finale

There is no way to list the best of the best without touting the Washington, D.C. fireworks display. Insidenova.com gives a list of all the great viewing places including the U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, The White House Ellipse, West Potomac Park, the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial and the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The display is skillfully coordinated over the reflecting pool in the mall area and lasts nearly 20 minutes.
